High potential and gifted education

Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.

At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

Recognising potential and developing talent

Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.

Tailored lessons

Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.

Rich opportunities and activities

Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.

Opening doors to wider experiences

Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom
  • Our school implements differentiated tasks that cater to varied learning paces, complexity levels and higher-order thinking skills.
  • Formative assessments are used to monitor student progress and guide learning growth.
  • We provide advanced learning pathways to challenge and extend students’ abilities.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are explicitly taught across the curriculum.
  • Flexible group work and collaborative practices encourage student engagement and idea sharing.
  • Targeted skill development and leadership opportunities support students’ personal and academic growth.
  • Strengths-based feedback and goal setting help students build confidence and achieve their goals.
  • We foster safe and supportive learning environments that encourage risk-taking, resilience and perseverance.
Across our school
  • Our school recognises that every student is unique and we provide flexible and diverse opportunities for students to explore and develop their strengths beyond the classroom.
  • We offer a range of whole-school programs that support student growth and development.
  • Students with high potential are identified and supported through targeted enrichment, extension and extra-curricular opportunities such as academic competitions, critical thinking workshops and creative arts groups.
  • All students, including those who are gifted or high potential, are encouraged to take on leadership roles, for example in the Student Representative Council (SRC), peer support programs, library, garden and computer monitor, school captaincy and prefect positions, as well as intergenerational programs.
  • Student talents are celebrated and nurtured through drama groups, visual arts showcases, dance performances and sporting competitions.
  • Our students also have opportunities to participate in sports training teams, coaching sessions, house competitions and differentiated Physical Education programs.
Across NSW
  • Our students participate in a broad range of state-wide programs designed to extend and enrich their potential, including the Premier’s Sporting Challenge, Premier’s Reading Challenge, STEM challenges, Eisteddfod, CAPERS, Dance Festival and Pulse Alive.
  • Through the Representative School Sport Pathway and PSSA events, students have opportunities to trial and compete at regional, state and national levels.
  • Our mentoring programs connect students with trusted adults, including school alumni, to build confidence, motivation and interpersonal skills.
